I have taught English abroad in Cambodia for two weeks, two times a day. In both times, there had been issues of communicating through the language barrier, but each side had a basic understanding of the other’s language.

I was surprised at how easy it was to teach. I learned to connect with the students and came to understand a bit of their lives and why they were there to be taught. I believe this will be beneficial, particularly when it comes to community service, in that I can better communicate with others.

I am most gratified with my teaching experience because, I have learnt that teaching expands on community living and introduces dynamic human to human relations. In teaching English to Cambodian students, I gained an insight on using simple technology and teaching strategies that capitalize social interactions and present the material in a meaningful way.
